Aquaman is an upcoming DC Comics character’s based superhero film which is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is the sixth installment of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). This epic movie is directed by James Wan, with a screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall, story was given by Geoff Johns, Wan and Beall. Jason Momoa plays the leading role in this film, with Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman in supporting roles. It will be the first full-length feature film centered on the only the titled character.

- Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry / Aquaman: A half-human who is reluctant to be king of the undersea nation of Atlantis. He has the super natural powers which includes ability to manipulate the tides of the ocean, communicate with other aquatic life, swim at supersonic speeds, and possesses superhuman strength.
- Amber Heard as Mera: Aquaman’s love, a warrior and daughter of King Nereus. She also has some powers which includes hydrokinetic and telepathic powers that allow her to control her aquatic environment and communicate with other Atlanteans.
- Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko: Counselor of Atlantis who would be a mentor of Aquaman.
- Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master: Aquaman’s brother and ruler of Atlantis, who wants to unite the seven underwater kingdoms to declare war on the surface world in thought of that humanity polluted the seas.
- Dolph Lundgren as Nereus: He is the king of the Atlantean tribe of Xebel and Mera’s father.
- Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as David Kane / Black Manta: A treasure hunter and a high-seas mercenary with a flair for creating different types of deadly technological innovations.
- Nicole Kidman as Atlanna: She is the Queen of Atlantis, also the mother of Aquaman and Orm.

In 2004, filmjerk.com reported that Sunrise Entertainment’s Alan and Peter Riche planned to bring Aquaman to the big screen in association with Warner Bros.
In July 2009, it was reported that Aquaman was at initial stages in development at Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Appian Way. A source from Warner Bros. told that they were discussing the possibilities, with the mention of more Man of Steel movies as well as a Superman/Batman film, a Wonder Woman film, and an Aquaman film. Geoff Johns told that Aquaman is one of the major characters for the DCEU. It was announced on 12th August, 2014, that Warner Bros. had hired screenwriters Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad to write two separate scripts for an upcoming Aquaman film such that only the better version would be selected.
On April 10, 2015, The Hollywood Reporter reported that James Wan was hired to direct the film. It was then revealed that previous script plans had been trashed and that both Wan and Johns planned to move forward with a new script written by the screenwriter Will Beall. Later, Johnson-McGoldrick was brought to the project to rewrite of Beall’s script.
On March 2016, it was announced that the Aquaman will be set after the events of Justice League. Wan confirmed on Twitter that cinematographer Don Burgess, who previously worked with Wan on The Conjuring 2, will serve as cinematographer for Aquaman. Pre-production began in Australia in late November 2016.

Principal photography of the film was began in Australia on 2nd May, 2017, under the working title Ahab. A majority of the film was shot at Village Roadshow Studios in Gold Coast, Queensland Between May and August 2017, production also took place on Main Beach, Coomera, Southport and Amity Point in North Stradbroke Island, Queensland of Gold Coast, as well as Hastings Point in New South Wales. On 11th August, 2017, filming was began on the Arthur Curry Lighthouse. In September, during an interview, actor Ludi Lin described Wan’s vision for the film as ‘Star Wars underwater’. Willem Dafoe finished up his part of shoot by late September. Filming on the hot humid location took place in the deserts of Morocco by mid-October, which included the cities of Merzouga and Erfoud. James Wan again collaborated with Kirk M. Morri served as the editor for Aquaman. Two-time Academy Award winner Charles Gibson for Babe and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, and Kelvin McIlwain for The Fast and the Furious franchise served as visual effects supervisors. Rodeo FX, Scanline VFX, Moving Picture Company, Industrial Light & Magic, Weta Digital, Method Studios, and Digital Domain provided the visual effects for the film. On 3rd November, 2018, James Wan announced that post-production on the film was complete.

On 7th March, 2018, Rupert Gregson Williams was announced as the composer for Aquaman. Gregson-Williams previously wrote the score for Wonder Woman. Soundtrack of the movie will be released by WaterTower Music on 14th December, 2018.

In March 2017, first look of “Aquaman” was revealed. Later, on 22nd July, the film’s first footage made its debut at San Diego Comic-Con with a teaser presented by Momoa. In April 2018, another teaser was shown by Wan and Momoa at CinemaCon. On June 11, 2018, the film’s first official trailer was previewed at the CineEurope in Barcelona, Spain. First look of Black Manta, Ocean Master, Queen Atlanna and Nuidis Vulko were revealed by Entertainment Weekly on 14th June, 2018. On 21st July, 2018, the first trailer was released. On 5th October, 2018, a 5-minute Extended Video was released by Warner Bros.
The first official TV spot for the film was released by the studio on 16th October, 2018, followed by a second one on 1st November, 2018. In the same month of November, character posters of the movie were released of Aquaman, Mera, Black Manta, Ocean Master, King Nereus, Queen Atlanna and Nuidis Vulko.
On 7th November, 2018, the studio announced they will go on a worldwide promotion tour, which will take place in the months of November and December, with fan events, screenings and premieres in major cities around the globe, which includes Beijing, London, New York, Manila, Los Angeles, Miami, Gold Coast, Sydney and Hawaii. It was announced that the film will also be screened on 7th December, 2018, during Brazil Comic Con (CCXP) in São Paulo.
